Easter is almost upon us and our house is ablaze (literally) with excitement. We had a huge amount of fun creating these simple little recycled toilet roll Easter chicks, which is an inexpensive and eco-friendly way to create Easter decorations!
All little ones love soft, fuzzy chicks and so this craft is a fantastic way to harness their creativity, excitement and enthusiasm for the gorgeous little creatures. This crafting activity offers a wide range of fine motor skill development opportunities – from the decorating of the toilet rolls to the gluing and handling of the small accessories like feathers, beaks and googly eyes.
We kept our chicks fairly simple as we’re going to use them as table decorations for our Easter lunch (and creating 8 of them seemed best kept simple!!)- however the sky is the limit with these and your little ones could use glitter, sequins and different coloured feathers too. We used half a toilet roll for each chick, as any smaller places a little too much pressure on the round of the toilet roll, causing it to crush inward slightly.
These are also fantastic for imaginary play. We created a few extra chicks, which also doubled up as fire-fighters, bus drivers, bathtime buddies and even enjoyed a few trips in the car (!). Simple, fun and effective… we hope you enjoy making these cute little chicks as much as we did!
- Toilet rolls (2 chicks per toilet roll)
- Paint, coloured paper
- Pipe-cleaners or coloured sticks for the legs
- Googly Eyes
- Sticky Tape
- Any other decoration you want!
How to make the Easter Chicks:
1- Cut each toilet roll in half with a sharp pair of scissors and paint or line with coloured paper
2- Decorate (if desired) and stick on the beak (triangle shaped coloured paper)
3- Glue on the coloured feathers and trim if required
4- Fasten two coloured stick or pipecleaners to the base of the toilet roll using sticky tape, ensuring that it balances the chick and allows it to stand.
5- Lastly glue on the googly eyes and allow to dry…. then your super cute little Easter Chicks are ready for action!
